Morning newborn sessions are one of my favorite times of day to photograph babies. Most newborns are naturally sleepier in the morning, making it easier to capture those peaceful, curled-up poses parents love. How to Prepare for a Morning Newborn Session in Shreveport

Keep Baby Awake Before You Leave (If You Can)

If your baby is awake for a little while before arriving at the studio, it often helps them settle into a deeper sleep during the session.

This doesn’t mean you need to force your baby to stay awake—just a diaper change, feeding, or a little cuddle time before leaving home is usually enough.

Every baby is different, so don’t stress if your little one has other plans!

Feed Baby Right Before the Session

A full tummy is one of the best ways to help your newborn feel comfortable and sleepy.

If you’re coming to my Benton studio from Shreveport, Bossier City, or the surrounding area, I usually recommend planning to feed your baby right before leaving or immediately after arriving if that’s easier.

There’s never any rush. We always allow plenty of time for feedings throughout your session.

Dress Baby in Something Easy to Remove

Choose a simple zip-up sleeper or loose-fitting outfit instead of clothing that has to be pulled over your baby’s head.

This helps us transition into wrapped poses without disturbing your baby’s sleep.

Avoid socks or tight clothing if possible, as they can leave temporary marks on your baby’s delicate skin.

Don’t Worry If Baby Cries

One of the biggest concerns new parents have is:

“What if my baby won’t sleep?”

The truth is… that’s completely normal.

I’ve been photographing newborns for nearly two decades, and every baby has their own personality. Some sleep the entire session. Others need extra cuddles, feedings, or rocking.

That’s exactly why I never rush.

Your baby’s comfort always comes first.

Bring the Essentials

A few things that are always helpful to have with you include:

• Extra diapers
• Wipes
• Bottles (if bottle feeding)
• A pacifier (even if baby rarely uses one)
• Extra formula or pumped milk, if needed

Don’t worry about bringing blankets, wraps, hats, or props—I provide all of those for your session.

Relax and Enjoy the Experience

Your only job during your newborn session is to love on your baby.

I’ll guide you through every step, safely pose your little one, and handle all the details while you relax.

Many parents even take a few moments to sit back, enjoy a snack, or simply watch as their baby’s first professional portraits are created.
