One of the most common questions I hear from new parents is whether their baby is too old for newborn photos.
The short answer? Probably not.
Many parents hear that newborn photography should happen within the first two weeks after birth. While that timeline is ideal for certain poses, it does not mean you’ve missed your opportunity if your baby is a little older.
As a Shreveport newborn photographer, I’ve photographed babies at one week old, three weeks old, one month old, and beyond. Every stage brings something special. The most important thing is preserving these memories before your little one changes again.

I typically recommend scheduling newborn photos within the first one to three weeks after birth whenever possible.
During this stage, babies tend to be:
These are the sweet, sleepy images many parents envision when they book a newborn session.

The first few weeks allow me to capture those timeless curled-up poses that highlight just how tiny your baby is. If those classic newborn portraits are important to you, booking early is always the best option.
However, every baby is different. Some babies remain sleepy well past three weeks, while others become more alert much sooner.
Absolutely.
While I typically recommend scheduling newborn photos within the first one to three weeks after birth, I never want parents to feel like they’ve missed their chance.
The first few weeks are often ideal because babies tend to be sleepier and naturally curl into those sweet, womb-like poses that many parents love. If those classic newborn images are important to you, I always encourage families to book as early as possible.
That said, life with a new baby doesn’t always go according to plan. Sometimes recovery takes longer than expected. Sometimes babies spend extra time in the hospital. Other times, the first few weeks simply fly by in a blur of feedings, diaper changes, and adjusting to a new routine.

No matter the reason, I never want a mom to miss out on having beautiful photographs of her baby.
Even if your little one is older than three weeks, we can still capture meaningful images that preserve this special season. Tiny fingers, soft cheeks, wispy eyelashes, sweet stretches, and growing personalities are all worth documenting. The newborn stage passes quickly, and every family deserves to have memories from those early days.
The most important thing isn’t whether your baby is exactly 10 days old or 30 days old. It’s making sure you have photographs that help you remember just how little they once were.

If your baby is around one month old, you have not missed out.
At this stage, sessions simply look a little different. Rather than focusing entirely on posed images, I often incorporate more natural, baby-led moments.
Many babies begin making eye contact, stretching more often, and showing tiny glimpses of their personality. These details create beautiful photographs that tell a different part of your baby’s story.
Parents are often surprised by how much they love these images because they capture the transition between the newborn stage and early infancy.

Life with a newborn is unpredictable.
Sometimes babies arrive earlier than expected. Sometimes they spend time in the NICU. Other times, parents simply need a few weeks to recover and settle into life with their growing family.
That is completely okay.
I never want families to feel stressed because they missed a specific timeline. My goal is to create beautiful images that reflect your baby’s story, no matter when your session takes place.

This is where I reassure parents the most.
While there is an ideal window for those sleepy, curled-up newborn poses, there is rarely a point where I would tell a parent they are completely too old for newborn photos.
Instead, the session simply evolves to match your baby’s age and development.
Whether your baby is two weeks old, four weeks old, or even older, there are still beautiful memories worth documenting. The tiny details, the connection with parents, and the love your family feels during this season matter far more than a specific age.

One thing I tell every parent is that these days pass quickly.
Right now, it may feel like you’re living in the middle of sleepless nights and endless feedings. However, before you know it, your baby will no longer fit perfectly in your arms. Those tiny newborn features will begin to change.
That is why I believe it is always worth documenting this season, even if things don’t happen according to the “perfect” timeline.
The memories matter far more than the exact age of your baby.

Whether your baby is one week old, three weeks old, or a little older, I would love to help you preserve these precious memories.
