If you’re expecting or recently welcomed a new little one, you’re probably wondering what to expect from a professional newborn photography session. As a newborn photographer serving Shreveport and surrounding areas, I’ve worked with so many sweet families—and chances are, you have some of the same questions they had!
Let’s walk through the most common questions I get about newborn photography so you can feel fully prepared and confident about booking your session.
What is “Simple, Pure & Natural” Newborn Photography?
My style is all about keeping the focus on your baby. I specialize in minimalistic newborn photography with soft white fabrics, delicate wraps, and gentle posing. No distractions—just clean, classic images that highlight your baby’s natural beauty. I follow your baby’s lead throughout the session, whether they’re wide awake or peacefully sleeping.
When Should I Schedule My Newborn Photography Session?
The best time to book your newborn session is during your second or third trimester. That way, we can reserve your spot on my calendar! Most sessions take place when your baby is between 7–20 days old, while they’re still in that sleepy, snuggly stage. But don’t worry—if your baby is older than 3 weeks, we can still create beautiful newborn portraits.
How Long Does a Session Last?
A full newborn session in my Benton studio, serving the Shreveport area, typically lasts 2–3 hours. This allows time for feeding, soothing, diaper changes, and anything else baby needs.
Do You Provide Props and Blankets?
Yes! I keep things clean and simple. My studio includes a curated collection of white and neutral wraps, coordinating blankets, and soft headpieces like bonnets and headbands. These details are chosen to enhance the photo—not distract from your little one.
Can Parents and Siblings Be in the Photos?
Absolutely! Including family members in your newborn pictures is one of the best ways to tell the full story of this season. We’ll take a lifestyle approach—relaxed and natural—so you feel comfortable in front of the camera. Just keep in mind that adding family portraits may extend the overall session time a bit.
What Should We Wear?
For a newborn session in my Benton studio, I recommend parents wear soft, neutral tones like white, cream, or pastels. These shades complement the simple, clean aesthetic I’m known for. I also offer a studio wardrobe with beautiful dresses for moms—feel free to ask me about it during your consult!
How Do You Get Babies to Sleep?
The studio is kept warm and cozy to help your baby relax. I use gentle techniques like swaddling, shushing, and swaying to help them settle. A pacifier—even if your baby doesn’t usually use one—can be a great tool to help soothe them during the shoot.
Is It Really Worth It to Get Newborn Pictures?
Yes. A thousand times yes. These early days are so fleeting. As a mom of two grown kids myself, I know how quickly time passes. Professional newborn photography captures this moment before it’s gone, preserving it forever in images you’ll cherish for a lifetime.
What Should I Bring to the Session?
Here’s a quick checklist:
I provide everything else you need, but you’re always welcome to bring anything personal to make your session extra meaningful.
Where Is Your Studio?
My cozy portrait studio is located in Benton, Louisiana, and I serve families throughout Shreveport, Bossier City, Haughton, and the surrounding areas. I’d love to welcome you in and capture this beautiful new chapter of your life.
